GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - A former Gilbert police officer has been sentenced to probation for his part in an illicit drug scam.
The Arizona Republic reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/2jHsZ9Q ) that 40-year-old Kristopher Gale Hanks helped make and sell illicit drugs commonly known as “spice” and “bath salts,” which are falsely labeled and sold as household items. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to deliver misbranded drugs into interstate commerce.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona said Hanks was part of a group that manufactured the illicit substances, which mimic the effects of marijuana and ecstasy, and sell them as incense, potpourri or bath treatments.
Gilbert Police Department officials could not immediately confirm how long Hanks had worked for the police force or when he left.
