OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - A history professor at the University of Mississippi will use a fellowship to complete a book about American miners.
Jarod Roll joined the Ole Miss faculty in 2014. He has received a yearlong fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and it begins in August.
A university news release says about 1,300 people applied for a fellowship, and 86 were selected.
Roll is a historian of modern America who focuses on labor. He is researching white working-class, anti-unionism and conservatism movements in mining areas of Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
The National Endowment for the Humanities supports research in fields such as history and literature.
