COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s sole PBS station has sold one of its four broadcast licenses for $56 million.
According to a news release sent Friday, the station will stop broadcasting from its Mount Ascutney tower and will upgrade and re-engineer its remaining signals.
The station’s coverage ability will stay the same. Viewers will still be able to watch the station’s programs using an antenna, cable, satellite or online.
Vermont PBS President Holly Groschner said the money will go toward boosting the station’s news and early childhood education programming. She also said the station will seek public input to inform how it plans to spend the money.
The license was sold at a Federal Communications Commission auction. The FCC will give the money to Vermont PBS later this year.
