GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - A Gaston County jury has handed down two life sentences to a man found guilty in connection with a fatal traffic crash two years ago.
The Gaston Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2kHh1xi) police said 49-year-old Eric Wilson Taylor drove across the center line in Mount Holly and crashed into 61-year-old Vance Avery of Lincolnton on Feb. 5, 2015. Avery died three days later.
On Thursday, Taylor was found guilty of second-degree murder, felony death by motor vehicle, DWI and violent habitual felon.
Prosecutors said Taylor was convicted of DWI and second-degree murder and sentenced to prison following a 1997 crash in which authorities say he hit a car head on, pinning a man and his two children inside a truck which caught fire. The man died, and Taylor fled on foot.
