JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police in Jacksonville say a homeless man seeking shelter inside an abandoned cargo trailer had died in a fire.

Jacksonville Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shaun Hayes told local media outlets that firefighters were called to a location around 2:20 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found the trailer engulfed in flames.

Hayes said the fire was extinguished quickly. When public safety personnel went inside the trailer, they discovered a body. The man’s identity hasn’t been released.

Police Sgt. Mark Ketchum said a preliminary investigation shows foul play isn’t suspected, and an investigation continues.
