DETROIT (AP) - More than 2,700 teens and young adults have applied for summer jobs through the city’s Grow Detroit’s Young Talent program.

Enrollment fairs are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at East Lake Baptist Church and Greater Emmanuel Institutional COGIC.

Grace Community Church and Triumph Church will host the events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 25.

Mayor Mike Duggan earlier this month challenged businesses and foundations to take part in the six-week program. The city hopes to provide 8,000 jobs for residents between 14 and 24 years of age.

This year, it also will provide opportunities for youth to receive industry-recognized certifications and expanded vocational training.

The application period ends March 31. About 8,100 jobs were created last summer and 5,600 in 2015.
