PHOENIX (AP) - A man was handcuffed by police and taken off a Phoenix mountain by helicopter after it was determined he was a threat to himself and others.
Phoenix police officers and a city fire crew responded to Piestewa Peak Park about 4 p.m. Tuesday after a caller reported seeing a man with an apparent head injury and signs of dehydration.
They say the unidentified man claimed he was hiding from police and was believed to have fled from a hit-and-run accident nearby.
Police located the man on the mountain and detained him.
They say that due to his apparent intoxication and statements indicating he’s a threat to himself and officers, a rescue helicopter removed him from the peak.
Police say the man was being taken for medical and/or mental health evaluation.
