BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The nation’s third-oldest zoo is planning a Valentine’s Day weekend surprise for a couple of its furry friends.

The Buffalo Zoo is sending polar bears Luna and Sakari on their first official date on Saturday.

Zoo officials say this special encounter will consist of “love-themed” snacks, keeper talks, and special enrichment throughout the day. There also will be special programming every half hour from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

As part of the introduction process, the two bears have been together for a couple weeks now and have been seen playing and swimming together. The hope is that they will mate in the future.
