ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) - Authorities in Anniston have identified a body as that of a local man who had been missing since New Year’s Day.

News outlets report that Dean Hazel’s badly decomposed body was discovered Thursday morning behind a church.

Coroner Pat Brown says the remains have been sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

It is unclear how old Hazel was or how he died.
