MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A 7-year-old boy who was struck in a hit-and-run in Mesa on Wednesday has died of his injuries.

Mesa police say Carter Wojahn-Curry died Friday morning.

They say Maria De Jesus Cabrera Davila was driving on an Arizona’s learner’s permit without a licensed driver in the vehicle when she struck the boy as he walked across a road. Cabrera Davila left the scene and later returned after a relative convinced her to.

Police say the 23-year-old is facing charges of failure to remain at the scene of a serious injury collision.
