LINDEN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a Linden High school student is responsible for a series of threatening social media posts that spurred a lengthy lockdown at the school this week.

Union County prosecutors say the 16-year-old girl faces charges of making terroristic threats, creating a false public alarm and cyber harassment. Her name has not been released due to her age.

The lockdown began around 9 a.m. Tuesday after a photo showing a rifle placed over a car’s steering wheel was discovered on Instagram. The post also threatened a shooting at the high school.

The lockdown ended about four hours later after police made a thorough search of the building. All students were dismissed a short time later.

The girl was arrested without incident Tuesday night.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
