SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah parole board says a former English teacher in prison for sexually abusing three students will stay behind bars at least two more years.

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole said Wednesday that 37-year-old Brianne Altice must undergo sex offender treatment before a re-hearing set for April 2019.

The decision comes after Altice appeared for her first parole hearing last week. She said she now recognizes she took advantage of the teens’ attention as she dealt with her own low self-esteem.

She began serving at least two and up to 30 years in prison in 2015, after pleading guilty to reduced charges in sexual relationships with former students aged 16 and 17.
