The House Ethics Committee said Thursday that it had opened an investigating of Rep. Blake Farenthold for sexual harassment of a female aide and retaliation against her when she complained.
Mr. Farenthold, Texas Republican, settled a sexual harassment complaint by the aide in 2014. The woman received an $84,000 settlement paid with taxpayer money.
Mr. Farenthold had offered to repay the money when the settlement became public.
The Ethics Committee noted in a statement that both Mr. Farenthold and the woman have recently said they wanted increased transparency for the matter.
