SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a man rescued from his fire-damaged home in Springfield has died from his injuries.
A fire department spokesman says the 69-year-old man was found in the basement of the home Tuesday afternoon. He says the fire appears to have started there and was apparently caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials.
The victim was rushed to Baystate Medical Center with critical injuries and later died at the hospital.
The victim’s name was not released.
A firefighter also received treatment for an eye injury sustained fighting the fire.
