WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Protesters have rallied near the property of a Rhode Island man accused of leaving his dogs out in freezing temperatures.
The demonstration was held Sunday morning near the Warwick property where Clifford Dennis runs a dog breeding business.
WJAR-TV reports that about two dozen protesters gathered in response to several pit bulls being left outside last week for several hours at a time. Authorities investigated, but determined the dogs were in good condition and Dennis didn’t break any laws.
Demonstrators called for changes to a state law that exempts people who raise hunting dogs from provisions including how long dogs can be kept outside.
Dennis told WLNE-TV that he raises and sells hunting dogs and loves them. He agreed to move all six of his dogs to a heated facility.
