GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) - A fire has displaced about 60 people who live in an apartment complex in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The Washington Post reported that firefighters from the Montgomery County Fire Department responded to the blaze about 4:45 a.m. It occurred at the Potomac Oaks Condominiums.

More than 100 firefighters fought the blaze. A police officer was taken to the hospital but was treated and released. No other injuries were reported. Residents were taken to a shelter across the street at an elementary school.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. But investigators said they believe it was an accident. About 12 apartments will be unlivable because of the damage.
