NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A house fire in New Orleans has killed a 70-year-old man, a 69-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy.
New Orleans Fire Department spokeswoman Nathel (NAY-thel) Morgan says an 80-year-old man was taken to a hospital.
She says the other adults were dead when firefighters found them early Friday, and the toddler died either at a hospital or en route. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Morgan says in a news release that neighbors in eastern New Orleans said they tried unsuccessfully to get into the burning house before firefighters arrived 1:40 a.m.
She says firefighters found fire coming out of the front door and windows of the one-story wood-frame house near Lake Pontchartrain. Morgan says it took 14 fire companies about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
