WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Authorities say a Wichita police horse has been euthanized because it was suffering from a painful intestinal obstruction.

Officer Charley Davidson, a spokesman for the Wichita Police Department, says the horse, named Champ, had served with the mounted unit officers for the past six years. The Wichita Eagle reports that Champ was euthanized over the weekend after it was determined that his GI tract had ruptured.

Davidson said Champ was “known for his kind and gentle disposition.” David said he was “loved by the community and the mounted unit officers.”
