BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts transportation officials say a traffic back-up that stretched 15 miles on Interstate 90 has cleared up.

A spokeswoman for the state’s transportation department said on Twitter that heavy traffic Tuesday afternoon was tying up I-90 westbound at an interchange with Interstate 84 in central Massachusetts.

That section of I-90 near the town of Sturbridge often sees heavy traffic during periods known for heavy travel, including the holiday season.

Transportation department spokesman Patrick Marvin said the heaviest traffic on I-90 had cleared away by 5:30 p.m., but a nearby section of I-84 eastbound still had a three-mile delay.

State police did not report any major crashes in the area.
