TINTON FALLS, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a New Jersey man and a dog were killed in a three-vehicle collision.

The Monmouth County prosecutor’s office said 71-year-old Wade Henson Jr. was heading east on Route 33 in Tinton Falls shortly before 9 p.m. Friday when he was hit from behind by a pickup truck.

Officials said his car was then pushed into oncoming traffic and hit by a sport utility vehicle. Henson was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m. Friday.

The prosecutor’s office said a large dog in Henson’s car was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver was treated for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
