CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A woman has died after her vehicle was hit by a man fleeing a traffic stop in North Carolina.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a statement the crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Monday just off Interstate 85.

Police said a trooper tried to stop Adelbert Kevin Redo for speeding. Police say Redo drove away, briefly dragging the trooper.



Police said the man fled on I-85, took ran off an exit road, hitting several vehicles. Redo’s vehicle struck a minivan driven by 45-year-old Teresa Villanueva Ortuno, who died on the way to a hospital.

Two other people in her minivan were hurt.

Redo is charged with second-degree murder, felony hit and run, serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired and reckless driving.

It was not known if Redo has a lawyer.
