SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. (AP) - Officials in North Carolina say a man has died in a mobile home fire.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office told local media outlets that firefighters were called to the home around 6 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in fire and smoke.
Although firefighters thought someone might be inside the home, they couldn’t get inside because the flames were too intense.
The victim was identified as 59-year-old Stacy Eric Messer, who firefighters said was home alone at the time of the fire. Officials said two dogs were curled up next to Messer when his body was found.
Investigators are trying to determine the specific cause of the fire.
