LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged an anesthesiologist with murder in the overdose death of a patient.

The district attorney’s office says 53-year-old Stephen Kyosung Kim faces arraignment Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

A telephone listing for Kim was not in service.

Prosecutors say Kim was working at a plastic surgery center in Beverly Hills on Sept. 26 and gave a 71-year-old patient sedation medication before surgery.

During the procedure, Kim allegedly injected himself with drugs and later gave the patient a lethal dose of Demerol in a recovery room. The patient soon went into cardiac arrest and died.

If convicted, Kim could face up to 25 years to life in prison.
