ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Some food seized in a wrongful death lawsuit judgment has been donated to a nonprofit group that serves the poor in South Carolina.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported $5,000 worth of food taken from the Sandbar Bar & Grill in Rock Hill was donated to Pilgrims’ Inn, a nonprofit that serves the poor in York County.
The family of Odell Fields donated the food that was seized as part of a $1.8 million judgment. Fields died in 2014 after he was punched outside the restaurant.
The restaurant owes more than $800,000 of the $1.8 million judgment ordered paid to Fields’ family.
The other $1 million of the judgment was against Eric Cobb, who struck Fields. Cobb is serving a 15-year prison sentence for a manslaughter plea.
