BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials have approved selling a parking lot as part of a plan to replace an iconic Burlington restaurant with a new hotel.
The Burlington Free Press reports the Burlington City Council voted Monday on the $500,000 sale of the lot to Richard Bove Jr. Three councilors opposed the sale.
Bove has proposed a 76-room hotel along with commercial space to replace the former Bove’s Restaurant. He also plans to purchase a nearby lot to build a 20-unit apartment.
Of those who opposed, Councilor Mark Tracey says housing issues in the city could’ve been solved without selling the lot. Councilor Ali Dieng says the city should have pursued other options.
Community and Economic Development Office director Noelle MacKay says Bove plans to start construction next spring.
