Chuck Grassley says Republicans need to decide if they want to govern

Sen. Charles Grassley said Wednesday that Republicans need to decide if they want to govern or risk losing the majority.

“We have to consider do we want to govern or not govern? Do we want to be in the majority or not be in the majority?” Mr. Grassley, Iowa Republican, said on Bloomberg.

“We ran on a platform, not exactly the president’s platform, but we ran on a platform and I believe strongly that a platform isn’t something you just stand on. It’s something you serve on,” he said.

Mr. Grassley said that Republicans will get the votes together on tax reform and pass it to President Trump’s desk by next Friday.

He said that Democrats and Republicans can come together on issues such as DACA legislation or criminal justice reform if they sit down together and come to compromise.

Mr. Grassley co-authored a criminal justice reform bill with Sen. Dick Durbin, Illinois Democrat, earlier this year that aims to review prison sentences for nonviolent offenders and increase restrictions on violent offenders.
