President Trump denied any allegations of sexual misconduct on Tuesday after several women came forward claiming he harassed them.
“Despite thousands of hours wasted and many millions of dollars spent, the Democrats have been unable to show any collusion with Russia - so now they are moving on to the false accusations and fabricated stories of women who I don’t know and/or have never met. FAKE NEWS!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
Three women came forward on Monday to retell their stories of sexual harassment or misconduct on the part of Mr. Trump. They went public during the campaign, but the new movement of women coming forward about workplace harassment, motivated them to speak out again.
Jessica Leeds, one of the woman who accused Mr. Trump of sexual harassment, said he tried to get physical on an airplane with her over 20 years ago, but remembers the incident well.
“All of a sudden, he was all over me. Kissing and groping and groping and kissing,” she said on “Megyn Kelly Today” on NBC News.
The White House released a statement to NBC News on Monday denying these allegations.
“These false claims, totally disputed in most cases by eyewitness accounts, were addressed as length during last year’s campaign, and the American people voiced their judgement by delivering a decisive victory. The timing and absurdity of these false claims speaks volumes, and the publicity tour that has begun only further confirms the political motives behind them,” the White House said.
Some Democratic senators have called for Mr. Trump’s resignation over the claims. New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who was one of the female senators that led the charge against Minnesota Sen. Al Franken to resign, called on the president to do the same.
Mr. Trump pushed back against Ms. Gillibrand, saying she used to ask him for campaign donations.
“Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
Ms. Gillibrand was in a Bible study when the president tweeted, according to The New York Times. She fired back her own response on social media.
“You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office,” Ms. Gillibrand tweeted in response.
