CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) - Officials in a New Jersey town have approved a redevelopment plan that will add housing.

The Courier-Post reports Cherry Hill councilors voted unanimously Monday to approve the project. Under the township plan, 252 apartment units will be built, replacing unused commercial buildings near the Still Park neighborhood. Cherry Hill will also pay $500,000 to preserve a wooded area.

Council members say the plan was revised following input from residents. Council President David Fleisher says the project is an example of how residents can effectively team up with Town Hall.

Fleisher says construction on the housing project will not start immediately.
