BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - An acclaimed Bismarck police dog has died.
The police department says Luna became seriously ill earlier this month, and veterinarians found a tumor during surgery. The dog did not recover from surgery and died Saturday.
Luna had served with the department since December 2012. Police say she located an “enormous amount” of illegal drugs during her career, including cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine.
She won several regional and national awards and was inducted into the North Dakota Animal Hall of Fame in 2014.
