WILLISTON, Vt. (AP) - Authorities in Vermont say residents in an apartment complex have been evacuated following a carbon monoxide leak.

The Williston Fire Department responded to a call from the Chenette Real Estate complex in Williston Monday night. Officials evacuated the building when they detected high levels of carbon monoxide.

Fire officials say they don’t believe anyone became sick from the elevated gas levels.

Officials say building heating furnaces may have caused the leak. Authorities turned off the building’s heat for the night.

The Red Cross is helping residents who have been temporarily displaced. Officials aren’t sure when residents will be able to return to the complex.

Vermont Gas is investigating the leak.
