House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Sunday that congressional Republicans are hopefully on track for final passage of their tax bill next week, which would be in line with President Trump’s Christmas deadline for a final deal.

“The House and Senate have two different bills — structurally they’re pretty similar,” Mr. McCarthy, California Republican, said on Fox News.

“They’re going to work out those differences — hopefully they can get that done this week. We come back the next week and vote on it,” he said.

“I feel very confident we’re going to get this done,” Mr. McCarthy said.

The House and Senate each have passed $1.4 trillion-plus tax-cut packages that would reduce the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent, trim individual rates, and eliminate various exemptions and deductions.

Negotiators from both chambers are gathering to hash out the differences between the two plans. For example, the Senate plan would repeal Obamacare’s individual mandate, while the House’s does not.
