Mother, daughter killed in North Carolina crash into pond

SANFORD, N.C. (AP) - A mother and her daughter have died in a crash into a North Carolina pond.

Local media outlets reported the highway patrol said the wreck happened around 2 p.m. Saturday in Sanford.

Six-year-old Kristina Smith died at the scene. Her mother, 29-year-old Jessica Kuk died at University of North Carolina Hospital on Sunday.

Troopers say Kuk ran off the right side of a road, over-corrected and overturned into a pond.
