MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Officials say a fire caused extensive damage to a waste recycling facility and a trailer in Vermont.

Firefighters responded to the fire at Casella Waste Systems in Montpelier around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Casella vice president Joe Fusco tells the Times Argus (https://bit.ly/2voqnaL ) the fire broke out in an area where recyclables are stored before being transported to another facility.

Fusco says the building damage will not stop operations, but he doesn’t know how long the repairs will take.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
