Comedy Central’s “@Midnight” will air its final episode Friday night, and the network is pulling the plug in part because it wants to go in a decidedly more political direction with its late-night programming.
The network “really wants to focus on politics in late night,” host Chris Hardwick said, reported E! News Friday. “So to have like, a political show and then our silly show about the internet…we tried to do politics a little bit but it just doesn’t really work as well.”
The show, which premiered in October 2013, was perhaps most notable for its Twitter hashtag games, which provided clever on-the-spot jokes and engaged the viewing audience at home.
Friday’s extended finale — the 600th episode in the show’s run — will air at midnight, running an hour long and featuring 30 comedian panelists, according to the show’s official Twitter account.
