NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a woman was killed when she tried to cross a street in darkness.

Troopers said in a news release that the 49-year-old woman was wearing dark clothing and wasn’t in a marked crosswalk early Thursday.

Police say the pedestrian stepped into the path of a car. Officers say the driver was unable to avoid hitting the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was not hurt.
