Special deals are on the menus for the end of summer’s “dog days” through Sunday at Passion Food Hospitality restaurants.
At Acadiana (901 New York Ave. NW), “Sip and Sup Mad Dog Margaritas” are priced at $1 with lunch or dinner. Burger Tap & Shake’s (4445 Wisconsin Ave. NW) “Black and White 151 Dalmatians Shaketail,” priced at $8.50, is a classic chocolate and vanilla milkshake with rum. District Commons (2200 Pennsylvania Ave. NW) offers $5 hot dogs at the bar during happy hour. Penn Commons (700 Sixth St. NW) has a happy hour deal of chorizo dogs with peppers and onions for $12, paired with Dogfish Head drafts from 4 p.m. to closing Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday.
To celebrate National Bourbon Heritage month in September, Acadiana’s house-made, barrel-aged Manhattan features bourbon, rye whiskey and sweet vermouth with rye bitters; the Brooklyn Lemonade at Penn Commons combines bourbon, maple syrup, lemon juice and beer. Hank’s Cocktail Bar (819 Upshur St. NW) is working with Angel’s Envy Bourbon, which will plant white oak trees for every bottle and drink purchased in September.
On Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Roofers Union (2446 18th St. NW) is offering unlimited tastings from 10 Oregon wineries as well as paired bites prepared by Executive Chef Jenn Flynn. Tickets are priced at $45.
Drift on 7th (1819 Seventh St. NW) celebrates the Sept. 10 broadcast of the Washington Redskins versus the Philadelphia Eagles from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with tailgate features such as crab dip, guacamole, tots ’n’ tentacles, crabcake sliders, grilled-shrimp tacos, avocado grilled cheese and funnel cake.
Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar (801 Ninth St. NW) will host a fundraising cocktail competition to benefit CORE (Children of Restaurant Employees) on Sept. 12 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The nonprofit organization supports children of food and beverage service families facing life-altering circumstances. Eight of the city’s leading mixologists will create a cocktail using one specific brand of rum, to be sampled by a panel of judges. Attendees will have an opportunity to vote after sampling each of the competing cocktails. Three prizes will be awarded: a grand prize of $400, $200 each for the runner-up selected by the judges and the one who wins the popular vote. Tickets can be purchased at CocktailNation.com and are priced at $40 per person.
Legal Sea Foods’s ninth annual Oyster Festival will take place from Sept. 14 through Oct. 11, when three of Legal Sea Foods’s Washington area restaurants (704 Seventh St. NW; 2301 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington; and 2001 International Drive, Tysons Galleria, McLean) will celebrate all things oyster, including buffalo oyster with blue cheese, celery hearts and radish; Sriracha lime oyster with roasted-corn salsa and crispy shallots; lobster spinach oyster with cheese and herbed crumbs; oyster scampi with shrimp garlic butter and white wine; and, of course, oysters on the half shell.
During the 2017-2018 football season through Feb. 4, Red’s Table (11150 South Lakes Drive, Reston) is offering a take-out platter for home consumption or tailgating, serving about 15 people and priced according to the choice of dishes. Orders must be placed by noon, 48 hours in advance of daily pickups from 11 a.m. to noon, or 3-6 p.m.
On Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m., Red’s Table will host a tasting dinner showcasing a variety of wines from Spain complementing a six-course dinner. Tickets are priced at $85 per person. The menu includes roasted tomato confit, garlic prawns, confit of rabbit, marinated hanger steak and petit fours.
Beginning Sept. 16 through October, Red’s Table will celebrate its annual Beer & Brat Oktoberfest. Bratwurst, knockwurst and Debreziner sausages on house-made pretzel buns will be paired with seasonal draft beers from local craft breweries.
The Hay-Adams’ bar, Off The Record (800 16th St. NW), debuts four politically themed cocktails this season. Each cocktail is priced at $16 and will be available through Oct. 31. The Hay-Adams has commissioned three political cartoonists to create collectible drink coasters depicting political figures making headlines this year, which align with the new drinks.
Just opened on the Cleveland Park/Cathedral Heights Wisconsin Avenue restaurant row is Silver (3404 Wisconsin Ave. NW), which describes itself as an American brasserie, the grown-up version of the Silver Diner, and modeled after La Coupole in Paris. Executive Chef Ype Von Hengst prides himself on his locally sourced products and prepares some outstanding vegetarian dishes.
Co Co. Sala (929 F St. NW) offers three-course ($25) and five-course ($35) “Dessert for Dinner” menus on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
