Western Oregon fire department Dalmatian dies at 13

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A western Oregon fire department Dalmatian whose duties included teaching children to “stop, drop and roll” has died at age 13.

Eugene-Springfield Fire officials tell The Register-Guard (https://bit.ly/2wyrntd) that Cody died on Thursday.

Assistant Fire Marshal Amy Linder says Cody was also a certified therapy and crisis response dog trained to help people who had experienced trauma.

Linder got Cody as a 6-week-old puppy and started training him. He eventually put on presentations at schools and became a local celebrity.

Cody in 2008 was named the first four-legged member of the Oregon Fire Service Honor Guard. Cody retired in 2013.

Linder has a 6-year-old Dalmatian named Casey who is also trained as a certified therapy and crisis response dog.
