DENVER (AP) - A Denver man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and her mother.

Twenty-eight-year-old Angel Chavez was found guilty Thursday after a six-day trial. A judge sentenced him to two consecutive sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Chavez was charged with the July 2016 deaths of 26-year-old Maira Cordero-Cuesta and 45-year-old Raquel Cordero-Cuesta

Chavez and Maira Cordero-Cuesta had two children. Chavez was convicted in 2008 of abuse against one of the children and was on parole at the time of the stabbings.

This story has been corrected to show Chavez is 28, not 26.
