MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A man charged with grabbing the steering wheel of a moving vehicle while intoxicated, causing a crash that killed two people and injured six others, has denied violating the terms of a deferred sentence for assault.

The Missoulian reports (https://bit.ly/2vfm665 ) 42-year-old James Bayford appeared before District Judge Dusty Deschamps as prosecutors sought to revoke his deferred sentence for drinking alcohol and other violations.

Court records say Bayford’s blood-alcohol level was 0.209 after the Aug. 5 crash that killed 33-year-old Vanessa Anderson and 36-year-old Donny Barlow. They were in a shuttle that was transporting people between Missoula and a weekend festival to prevent alcohol-related crashes.

Deschamps set an Aug. 29 hearing for Bayford to enter pleas to two counts of negligent homicide and six counts of felony criminal endangerment in the crash.

Bayford remains jailed on $200,000 bail.
