CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an assistant principal was struck and injured by an SUV while directing traffic outside a Florida high school.

The Sun Sentinel reports that Lisa Pannazzo was hit Wednesday morning outside J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, near Fort Lauderdale.

The administrator initially went up on the SUV’s hood, but then fell off and ended up underneath. Firefighters freed her, and she was airlifted to a nearby hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The SUV’s driver told police that she confused the gas and brake pedals when she noticed Pannazzo in the road. It was the third day of school, and Pannazzo was trying to help parents and others who were dropping students off. Officers noted that Pannazzo wasn’t wearing high visibility gear. The driver wasn’t cited.
