DOVER, Del. (AP) - Attorneys for four former Wilmington Trust executives facing trial for bank fraud say federal prosecutors may have knowingly presented false testimony to a grand jury.
Defense attorneys claim in a court filing Tuesday that a Federal Reserve examiner told the FBI in 2013 that he knew the bank did not report all of its matured loans as past due. But an FBI agent told a grand jury in 2015 that the examiner was not aware that the bank waived certain loans from past due reporting.
Defense attorneys are asking a judge to hold a hearing and order prosecutors to turn over more records to determine whether false testimony also was given to the grand jury that returned a superseding indictment last year.
Prosecutors say the defense motion is without merit.
