SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A San Jose man has been charged in the shooting of two off-duty Oakland firefighters that killed one.

The Mercury News reports (https://bayareane.ws/2viWKDr ) that 27-year-old Oliver Juinio was charged Monday with murder and attempted murder.

Officials say the 26- and 30-year-old firefighters were both shot as they left an event in San Jose last Thursday.

Fire officials say the 26-year-old is expected to survive after suffering one gunshot wound, while 30-year-old Jake Walter was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Authorities say Juinio has a criminal history that includes two burglary-related convictions. It was illegal for him to possess a firearm.

He is being charged with his third “strike” and is currently being held in jail without bail.
