MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A 60-year-old man who was severely burned in a cabin explosion and fire in western Montana has died.

The Missoulian reports https://goo.gl/afPN4r Jerry Kinney, a maintenance man and clerk at the Turah Store and Campground, died at a hospital in Seattle on Friday. He had suffered second- and third-degree burns over 87 percent of his body.

Kinney, who had lived in the one-room cabin for 2½ years, awoke in the middle of the night on Aug. 12 and tried to light a cigarette. That ignited leaking propane gas behind the kitchen oven and stovetop, causing the explosion and fire.

Firefighters rescued a dog that was found under the burning cabin, which is considered a total loss.
