MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Fire officials in New Hampshire are investigating a fire that seriously injured a man.

WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2wfoqhq ) firefighters responded to an emergency call about a house fire in Manchester around 4:15 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say three people had escaped the home by the time crews arrived.

Firefighters battled heavy smoke to rescue a 59-year-old man who was still trapped in the second-floor bedroom of the home. District Fire Chief Al Poulin says a team was able to rescue the victim before containing the blaze around 5 p.m.



The man was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester but later flown to a Boston hospital for treatment. The victim suffered second-degree burns over much of his body.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
