SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Fire officials say two hikers were stung multiple times by bees along a Phoenix-area trail.

Scottsdale Fire Department spokeswoman Lori Schmidt says the fire department responded Wednesday night to the Sunrise Trail where Kris Milstead was able to descend the trail without help after being stung, but John Learn was unable to get down.

Schmidt says a helicopter was called to lift Learn off the trail.

The two were hiking on a mountain they legally were not supposed to be hiking on when a swarm of bees attacked and the two ran in opposite directions.

Police issued the hikers a misdemeanor ticket for trespassing.

Sunrise Trail is part of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
