BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont lawmaker has announced he will join a class-action lawsuit against a company accused in widespread contamination of the chemical PFOA.
The Bennington Banner reports (https://bit.ly/2ugiRdf ) state Sen. Richard Sears will join the lawsuit filed by residents of North Bennington and Bennington against Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.
In an announcement Monday, the Democratic senator says he is joining the lawsuit as a resident of North Bennington.
The company agreed last week to a partial settlement with the state for a $20 million public water line extension to about 200 homes affected by contaminated private water supplies.
Sears says the class-action lawsuit will include more than 140 households and address further concerns related to the contamination.
No contamination has been found in the public water systems in the area.
