ESSEX, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police are searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash.

Authorities say the incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on the ramp from the northbound Jones Falls Expressway to the outer loop of I-695.

Investigators say 30-year-old Ramon Purvey of Owings Mills was standing next to his car on the shoulder of the ramp when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle. Purvey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the suspect vehicle is a blue BMW X5, possibly a 2000 to 2003 model, with Pennsylvania registration.

The vehicle likely has damage to the front passenger side, with the side mirror damaged or missing.

The suspect vehicle was last seen driving erratically on the outer loop of I-695 and exiting onto northbound Stevenson Road.
