NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a driver on a Brooklyn street hit a man and then several parked cars before fleeing from his vehicle, leaving the man killed and five other people injured. Police took the driver into custody a short time later.
Authorities say Terrance Smith of Bedford Heights, Ohio, faces charges including driving while impaired and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police say the 37-year-old was driving on Powell Street around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when he hit Michael Joefield, 21, of Brooklyn, and other cars before his vehicle stopped.
Joefield was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
