KILMARNOCK, Va. (AP) - The National Weather Service says it’s investigating possible tornado damage in southeastern Virginia.
Meteorologist Jeff Orrock said Thursday that investigators have been dispatched to the city of Chesapeake and the towns of Kilmarnock and Irvington.
Orrock said there’s a good possibility of a “weak touchdown” in those areas. He said winds were up to 70 mph. Investigators will compare damage patterns with radar data before making a determination.
Kilmarnock town manager Tom Saunders said the storm left a trail of damage through a part of town. Some windows were blown out at a hospital. Trees and sheds were also knocked down.
Chesapeake spokesman Heath Covey said damage was mostly limited to knocked-down trees and power lines in the city’s Hickory area. However, he said a farm building sustained some damage.
