LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man is dead after being hit by a CSX freight train in central Florida.

A Lakeland police news release says the 34-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon, shortly after being hit.

Witnesses told police that the man walked from a nearby park to the train tracks and then appeared to intentionally lean forward into a passing train. Rescuers took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are continuing to investigate.
